The setting for the radiocarbon dating of the shroud

My speculation is that it was his way of acknowledging that the C14 process had been handled badly.

The biggest Shroud event in the UK is currently held annually during the Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community which hosts Shroud scholars from around the world.

Here, we report the main findings from the analysis of genomic DNA extracted from dust particles vacuumed from parts of the body image and the lateral edge used for radiocarbon dating.

Several plant taxa native to the Mediterranean area were identified as well as species with a primary center of origin in Asia, the Middle East or the Americas but introduced in a historical interval later than the Medieval period.

The “frosty” 6 contaminant is also not present on the Mark Evans image of the Shroud.15 As ‘the "frosty" coating is almost certainly a plant gum in the Raes sample’ 6 it is likely to be a plant gum in the Oxford sample.

Pope Benedict's last act before retirement was to order an unprecedented international televised exposition of the Shroud.

The official start of the conference will be on Friday, August 15. Abstracts can be submitted by non-Shroud Science members and are due 1 February 2008.

The conference, which falls during the 30th anniversary of the 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP) and the 20th anniversary of the controversial 1988 carbon-dating test, will feature contributions from STURP members, including STURP documenting photographer Barrie Schwortz, who will present "A Tribute to STURP," with some previously-unseen photographs of the 1978 study.

Furthermore, the results raise the possibility of an Indian manufacture of the linen cloth.

The Turin Shroud (TS) is a linen cloth, 4.4 m long and 1.1 m wide, bearing the double image of a man who suffered physical trauma in a manner consistent with crucifixion after being beaten, scourged and crowned with thorns.
